How much does ¥100,000 to Indonesia cost?

We priced ¥100,000 paid in total by bank transfer, using quotes captured between 23:01 and 23:06 JST on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Where a provider adds the fee on top, we took it out of the ¥100,000 first. Wise’s mid-market rate at that moment was 1 JPY = 115.33 IDR, so ¥100,000 was worth IDR 11,533,000. Rates change every day.

Provider Fee Rate (1 JPY =) Recipient gets (bank) Total cost
Remitly ¥100 114.86 IDR IDR 11,474,514 0.51%
Wise ¥976 115.33 IDR IDR 11,420,438 0.98%
Western Union ¥1,480 114.92 IDR IDR 11,322,384 1.83%
Brastel Remit ¥1,280 114.60 IDR IDR 11,313,312 1.90%
SBI Remit ¥1,480 114.50 IDR IDR 11,280,540 2.19%

Total cost compares what arrives with ¥100,000 at the mid-market rate. Remitly’s figure is the regular price for a returning customer. New customers got a promotional rate of 115.42 IDR and no fee on their first ¥100,000, which gave IDR 11,542,000.

The gap is real money: Remitly’s regular price put about IDR 194,000 more in the account than SBI Remit’s. SBI Remit and Brastel publish reference rates; the rate you get is fixed when the provider accepts the transfer. Brastel’s published Indonesia rate is for bank deposits. SBI Remit’s cash rate (114.63 IDR) was a little better than its bank rate and gave IDR 11,293,360. Western Union’s cash pickup rate was lower and gave IDR 11,271,346.

Fee only, rate not captured

Provider Fee for ¥100,000 Payouts
Seven Bank with Western Union ¥890 to a bank account, ¥1,950 cash pickup Bank (PT POS Indonesia, PT Bank Syariah Mandiri), Western Union agents
Japan Post Bank ¥3,000, plus possible intermediary charges Bank (SWIFT)

We couldn’t record a rate for either. KYODAI Remittance (now Ria Kyodai, part of Ria Money Transfer) also sends to Indonesia in rupiah. We didn’t price it at our sample time, so it isn’t scored; check its estimator on the day.

  • Remitly: most rupiah on our sample, with bank deposit, cash pickup and mobile wallet (GoPay is shown); no published delivery times.
  • Wise: mid-market rate and a ¥976 fee, quoted to arrive in seconds; bank accounts only.
  • Brastel Remit: the widest wallet list (eight e-wallets, within 15 minutes) plus cash at POS Indonesia, but bank deposits to most banks take 1 to 3 business days, so it scores lower on speed than Wise or SBI Remit.
  • Western Union: bank, mobile money and cash pickup, all for ¥1,480; no published delivery times.
  • SBI Remit: fast bank and cash payouts, but the ¥1,480 fee and a lower rate made it the most expensive of the five on our sample.

All five are registered with the FSA: Remitly Japan (Kanto 00077), Wise Payments Japan (Kanto 00040), Brastel (Kanto 00016), Western Union Japan (Kanto 00039) and SBI Remit (Kanto 00008).

Yes, with some providers. This helps if you’re new in Japan and your bank account isn’t ready yet.

  • SBI Remit at convenience stores: the deposit fee is ¥800 for ¥50,000 to ¥100,000, on top of the remittance fee.
  • SBI Remit’s Remit Card: deposit at Japan Post ATMs for ¥330 up to ¥50,000 and ¥500 above, or at Lawson Bank ATMs for ¥300.

What do I need to sign up in Japan?

  • Residence card (在留カード). Wise, Remitly, Western Union and SBI Remit accept it as ID for foreign residents, and Brastel checks it for foreign nationals. Remitly also asks for a selfie and a short video, and your name and address must match the card exactly.
  • My Number. The overseas transfer reporting law requires it when you send money abroad, including through money transfer companies. Wise asks for a My Number document if you don’t verify with a My Number card.
  • A way to pay in yen. Most providers want a bank transfer from your Japanese account; the cash options are above.

Each transfer through a Type 2 provider is capped at ¥1,000,000 by law, and transfers over ¥1,000,000 are reported to the tax office. Provider limits can be lower: Brastel allows up to ¥800,000 per transfer, and SBI Remit up to ¥1,500,000 a month to Indonesian bank accounts. Japan Post Bank’s limit is under ¥1,000,000 per transfer.
